Heritage Walk through the Temple Town
Duration: 1.5 hours
All days of the week
What this tour is about: This is a walk through the old part of Bhubaneswar city, to see its famous temples and daily life in the area.
The walk takes place in the heart of an area known as the Ekamra Kshetra, or the "forest of mango trees" referred to in an old legend of Shiva. Ekamra Kshetra has temples ranging from 6th to 13th century AD, representing various phases in the development of Orissan temple architecture.
The streets and bazaars around the temple are interesting and busy, with vegetable vendors, flower sellers, street food and stalls selling religious paraphrenlia. There are sacred tanks for prayers and ablutions, various rest houses and dharamsalas, and large-scale temple kitchens. In addition, there are also residences and shops.
This tour is excellent for those interested in photographing important monuments as well as daily street life.
